For every child, hope According to the 2019 JMP, basic access to drinking water in Chad is 56% with huge disparities between rural (29%) and urban (70%) areas. As for basic sanitation services, the rate is only 15%, with abyssal disparities between rural (3%) and urban (56%) areas. With more than 67% of the population practicing open defecation, Chad is one of the countries with the highest defecation rates in the world. UNICEF has received several funds to improve hygiene and sanitation in Chad, including funds from the German government, part of which will be used to implement WASH activities at the community level and in institution (schools and health centres). These activities will contribute to the reduction of maternal and child mortality by strengthening the resilience of communities and increasing the use of equitable and quality multisectoral services.
