We're looking for a  Senior Political Advisor. Duties: Monitors and assesses political developments in the G5 Sahel countries to provide the G5 Sahel with early warning and policy options for conflict prevention, peace-making and post-conflict peace building. Contributes to the formulation of appropriate strategies; develops a vision or direction for work; proposes policy directives and plan of action on matters relating to the UNDP strategic support to the G5 Sahel and where appropriate, regional economic communities (RECs) and regional mechanisms (RMs) in the areas of conflict prevention, management, resolution and peacebuilding for immediate and long range solutions to problems in general and in specific geographical areas; identifies emerging issues pertaining to the mandates of G5 Sahel and analyses implications and makes recommendations on possible strategies and measures. Contributes to briefing notes and talking points, contextual information materials, such as background notes, political profiles and databases of relevance to the assigned portfolio as needed or appropriate for the Permanent Secretary. Peace & Development Specialist

Background Peace and Development Specialists (hereafter PDA) work with national stakeholders to build, strengthen, and sustain nationally owned and driven efforts to prevent violent conflict and build just and peaceful societies. The range of countries to which PDAs are deployed vary considerably, with some deployed to countries emerging from conflict, others where violence is escalating, and others to countries where there is no violent conflict but underlying structural causes of conflict are present. PDAs are also deployed in countries where political and developmental challenges exist around issues related to elections and constitutional processes, exclusion and inequality, environment, climate change and natural resource management.    PDAs are deployed through a partnership between the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under the Joint UNDP-DPPA Programme on Building National Capacities for Conflict Prevention.  PDAs support Resident Coordinators (RC) and UN Country Teams (UNCTs) in their efforts to work with national partners on conflict prevention and sustaining peace.
