Background Although COVID-19 health emergency has ended, there is still a great need to sustain COVID-19 vaccination to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 outbreaks. Moreover, countries in the Western Pacific Region have urgent needs of recovering essential health care services, particularly routine immunization services. To assist country in meeting these needs through synergy, the WHO Regional Office for Western Pacific has developed Western Pacific Regional Road Map for COVID-19 Vaccination Response 2022–2023. The regional roadmap recommends two regional objectives, including 1) sustainable reduction of severe morbidity and mortality due to COVID-19; and 2) integration of the COVID-19 vaccination response into the overall immunization system and programmes and accelerated implementation of the Regional Strategic Framework for Vaccine-Preventable Diseases and immunization in the Western Pacific 2021–2030 (RSF). Purpose of consultancy To provide technical expertise to the Mpox SAGE Working Group and update of evidence-base as well as WHO Interim Recommendations. Background The World Health Organization (WHO), Immunization, Vaccines & Biologicals (IVB) Department leads the process for developing policy recommendations for the use of vaccines, including Mpox vaccines. In order to carry out this activity, the IVB Immunization Policy Team hosts the Executive Secretariat of the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE). SAGE provides recommendations to the Director-General on all immunization policy related issues. In 2013, SAGE issued recommendations on the use of smallpox vaccines. Given new epidemiological and vaccine-related developments, an Ad-hoc SAGE Working Group (WG) has been established to revise the relevant data on the use of vaccines against smallpox, Mpox and other orthopoxviruses.
