Purpose of consultancy To provide technical expertise to the Mpox SAGE Working Group and update of evidence-base as well as WHO Interim Recommendations. Background The World Health Organization (WHO), Immunization, Vaccines & Biologicals (IVB) Department leads the process for developing policy recommendations for the use of vaccines, including Mpox vaccines. In order to carry out this activity, the IVB Immunization Policy Team hosts the Executive Secretariat of the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE). SAGE provides recommendations to the Director-General on all immunization policy related issues. In 2013, SAGE issued recommendations on the use of smallpox vaccines. Given new epidemiological and vaccine-related developments, an Ad-hoc SAGE Working Group (WG) has been established to revise the relevant data on the use of vaccines against smallpox, Mpox and other orthopoxviruses. Specifically, the Ad-hoc WG is tasked to review the evidence with respect to use of smallpox and Mpox vaccines in three specific areas of public health concern, namely global health security, occupational health and safety, and prevention and control of Mpox and other orthopoxvirus infections.
