Project description EGPAF Cameroon, in collaboration with the Cameroon Ministry of Public Health (MOH), will conduct a research project entitled “Digital Tools to Expand COVID-19 Testing in exposed individuals in Cameroon” (DTECT Cameroon). This study funded by FIND focuses on how best to reach contacts of individuals who test positive for SARS-CoV-2 and get them tested for SARS-CoV-2. DTECT study is a cluster-randomized trial comparing two strategies for contact tracing of SARS-CoV-2 infected patients. The study will assess whether a digital model for tracing people exposed to SARS-CoV-2 infected patients would be more effective than the current contact tracing model. The research will evaluate the effect of using a digital contact tracing module in improving COVID-19 contact tracing and testing. The project will provide programs with evidence on a more efficient approach of notifying and tracking contacts of SARS-CoV-2 infected patients. The long-term benefits of this approach and its eventual scale-up at national levels would bring a better detection rate for all contacts of SARS-CoV-2 infected patients, and early management of infected persons which will imply less SARS-CoV-2 transmission in the community, and lower SARS-CoV-2 incidence and mortality overall.
