International Consultant For Development Of ECD Training Manuals

UNICEF

Background  : UNICEF takes a lifecycle-based approach, recognizing the particular importance of early childhood development (ECD) and recognising that ECD is the best start to provide a solid foundation for learning and developing social skills across primary and secondary grades. UNICEF programmes focus on the most disadvantaged children, including those living in fragile contexts, those with disabilities, those who are affected by migration and those affected by environmental degradation. Equally important are the educational and Psycho-social gains to be had from early stimulation, parent education and continued learning all across the life cycle. Many young children in Guyana are deprived of the best possible start in life, especially those who live in the hinterland and other remote areas of Guyana or those who are affected by migration. There is increasing evidence that participation in high-quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) programmes has a significant impact on a child’s holistic development, strengthens the capacity to be successful across the life cycle, and is a key contributor to the achievement of sustainable development. The imperative for ECD emphasizes a collaborative approach to early childhood development to ensure the provision of nurturing care, defined as a set of conditions...
